As of September 30, our donation campaign, "Living Kindly with Neighbors," has officially come to an end. We sincerely thank you for following our activities and supporting us over the past two months.
Through this initiative, we received the following support:
Crowdfunding: 247 supporters / ¥3,278,042
Postal Transfer (via flyer forms) & Direct Cash: 66 supporters / ¥824,766
Event Donation Boxes: ¥203,422
ARI Participant Project Product Sales: ¥37,400
Total: ¥4,343,630
Thanks to your help, we successfully reached our target of ¥2.2 million required for the Western Japan Study Tour, ensuring we can conduct the program again this year. Furthermore, we received an additional ¥2.14 million, which will provide vital financial support so our participants can safely focus on their learning through their graduation in December.
While the campaign has concluded, the learning journey for our rural community leaders is just beginning. The Western Japan Study Tour will begin on November 10. We look forward to sharing updates with you at a later date on who they meet, what they experience, and what takeaways they bring back.

On this final day, and in the days ahead, please continue to lend your support to ARI's training programs.
We are deeply grateful that, on the very first day, we reached our goal of ¥1,000,000 for Western Japan Study Tour transportation costs, and within twelve days, reached our goal of ¥2,200,000 covering lodging, food, and training costs. Asian Rural Institute has continued to exist because of the support of so many people. Through the Western Japan Study Tour — where participants encounter the realities of pollution and war and come to feel their essence as their own — and through our other programs, we will continue to offer learning opportunities to rural community leaders gathering here from all over the world.
To protect an environment where our participants can continue learning with peace of mind, we ask for your continued support.
Over these past two months, we've shared our work from many different angles — stories of our participants and graduates, the Western Japan Study Tour, and the voices of those who support Asian Rural Institute.
The rural community leaders who study at ARI eventually return to their own countries and regions.
They don't keep what they've learned here to themselves — they share it with others in their rural communities, carrying it forward into the next change.
It's this kind of learning that we want to keep making possible.

Their home countries, their daily lives, and the work they are engaged in are all different. Yet in the way each of them tries to say "I am..." in Japanese, you can see the spirit of these rural community leaders, who live together as neighbors at ARI, a community of learning.
In November, these participants will travel across Japan on the West Japan Study Tour. Through the people they meet in Machida, Hamamatsu, Osaka, Minamata, Hiroshima, and Mie, they will learn by connecting what they see to the challenges facing their own countries.
We hope this video helps you, our supporters, to know the names and faces of these rural community leaders, who come together at the Asian Rural Institute in Japan from around the world and carry what they learn back to their communities.

What participants learn at ARI goes beyond farming techniques or knowledge. Coming together from all over the world, participants spend nine months living communally — and part of that is making time to care for both mind and body. "Retreat" is an essential part of that.
That's because daily life at ARI — between hands-on training, classes, and communal living — is busy and full of stimulation. That's exactly why ARI has come to believe that having a quiet place and time, surrounded by rich nature, is so necessary.
We asked Kuriko, a part-time staff member, why ARI has taken up retreat.
"Life at ARI is so busy and full of stimulation — that's exactly why we need a quiet place and time here, surrounded by rich nature. That's why we started this effort."
"In particular, the participants who come here have lived through extremely severe circumstances. Some of them lead their communities, constantly facing war or regional conflict in their daily lives."
"So if our participants can experience this retreat, and go on to share that same kind of peaceful time with their communities after returning home, nothing would make us happier."
